At Carrier Corporation, we know that how you ultimately feel (in your home and about the Carrier brand equipment) has a lot to do with the dealer’s performance. That’s why we evaluate not only how well they can take care of your home comfort system, but also how well they take care of you as a customer. You’ll benefit from work that is done…”
As a Carrier service provider, we realize things can happen to cause concern regarding your heating and cooling equipment. Together with Carrier, let’s address some of these points.
Things to Know About Your Carrier HVAC System
How old is your HVAC equipment? A typical furnace lasts about 20 years and chances are the older it is, the less efficient it is economically.
Other than age, the mechanical parts of your furnace can wear out, become dirty and other issues can cause your HVAC system to have problems. Here is Carrier’s list of ways to trouble shoot the most common problems. Check these before you call an expert:
- Noise? Begin by looking for any loose screws or parts and adjust where possible. Fan belts and blowers can create a lot of squeaking noises.
- Not sufficient heat? In some cases you will find that the blower is at fault by being dirty and clogged. Cleaning it could resolve the problem.
- Oil burner won’t start? Analyze and solve the problem by looking for any faulty circuit breakers or blown fuses. Often the motor overloads, so wait for 30 minutes and press the reset button.
- Electrical problems? Inspect visible wiring and electrical connections for signs of damage like burns, unraveling wires and loose nuts. Use extreme caution.
- Rust and gaps? Check your vent connection pipe and chimney for rust or gaps. Venting system parts can deteriorate over time.
- Filter? If you have a gas or oil furnace, make sure you have a clean and properly sized filter in place. (This is the number one maintenance job you need to do on a regular basis).
Regular HVAC Furnace Maintenance Check-ups are a Must
For a boiler maintenance check-up your tech will usually:
- Check the unit and its physical support for any obvious signs of deterioration.
- Try out the system’s operation to determine its condition and if repairs or adjustments are needed.
- Inspect all flue gas passages and venting
Clean (as needed) the pilot/ignition system, burner assembly and combustion area. - Check and clean the gas/oil valve.
- Look at gas or oil connections, gas/oil pressure and burner combustion.
- Be sure there are secure physical connections of individual parts.
- Make sure all electrical connections are sound and components are working properly.
- Try the control or thermostat for functionality.
The maintenance check-up for a gas furnace can include:
- Inspection and cleaning (as needed) of the heat exchangers coupling box(es) and inducer assembly.
- Lubricating moving parts and motors (if applicable).
- Check and cleaning the condensate drainage system for condensing gas furnaces.
- Clean and adjusting the blower components.
- Look at supply and return air ducts for obstructions, leaks and insulation and remedy any problems.
- Inspect and make any necessary adjustments to the return-air duct connection(s) at the furnace.
- Look at the filters, and replace or clean.
