What are Some Clean Air Solutions?
The American Lung Association states that poor indoor air quality can cause or contribute to the development of chronic diseases, such as lung disease and asthma, especially when germs or toxins go unfiltered. Added to this, our homes can trap an array of allergens and pollens. These contribute to headaches, eye irritation, fatigue, and nasal congestion. The most effective way to reduce suffering from these conditions is to remove the pollutants in your home. This is a good reason to consider air purification systems for your home.
What if you do everything possible to maintain the cleanliness of your home, such as keeping up with dust and pet dander? You may be surprised to learn that the air quality outdoors is still better than the inside of your home. How? Cars and hazardous materials from businesses aren’t the only pollutants that threaten your health. Cleaning products, dust, paint, radon, and some household furnishings introduce pollutants into your home. Often, health problems stemming from inhaling contaminated air will surface later in life. Fortunately, a whole home air filtration system can improve your quality of life now and in the future.
Benefits Gained From a UVC (Ultra-violet) Emitter System
By having a UVC system professionally installed in either a new or existing air-conditioning or forced-air system, you will be able to destroy mold and bacteria before they start to circulate throughout your home or commercial business. Included in the list of bacteria that can effectively be destroyed are SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) and Anthrax.
Many manufacturers have been developing and offering these UVC add-ons. One of the leaders in the industry is Steril-Aire®. The EPA reported the Steril-Aire UVC devices achieved 99.96% destroy rate in a single pass over of airborne bacteria, 99% on viruses and 96% on spores.
A Local Example
A UVC add-on can solve many problems. One of ABEL’s success stories is found locally with the installation of UVC Emitters within the HVAC system of the New Hope Church, in New Hope, MN. The building can accommodate over 2,000 people at one time, and even those who were once unable to attend public services due to respiratory issues or allergies, are now able to join in.
These emitters can provide:
- Cleaner, healthier air
- Improved HVAC Performance
- Easy installation and cost effective solution
- Significant energy saving
Whole Home Air Purification Systems
Carrier offers the Infinity® Air Purifier. It treats the air flowing through your home comfort system using a unique three-step process. They say:
The award-winning Infinity air purifier works silently in-line with your HVAC system to make the air you breathe healthier. It uses Captures and Kills™ technology to trap up to 95% of pathogens down to .30 micron in size, then uses an electrical charge to kill or inactive them. With every cycle of air that passes through this patented air purifying system—up to 8 per hour, pollen, animal dander, smoke, bacteria and other pollutants are trapped and held tightly to the filter. An electrical charge then bursts the cell walls of pathogens it comes in contact with.Independent testing has proven the Infinity air purifier’s effectiveness against 13 pathogens plus a common household fungus.”
In general, air-purifiers are a good way to keep the air you breathe clean and fresh.
Not all filters are created equal, and HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) is the rating provided for filter installation and replacement in most home systems.
The unit of measurement for a particle size is called a micron, also known as a micrometer, and is one millionth of a meter. A grain of pollen is about 5 microns. Most airborne particles are far smaller than this.
The purpose of a HEPA filter is to remove large and small particles from the air you breathe. None of these are healthy, but the especially small particles cause the most trouble for your respiratory system and allergic reactions.
How can Pollutants Multiply Within Your Home?
One way is by biofilms forming mold and bacteria that reduces heat transfer, cooling capacity and an increase pressure drop across the A/C coils. The biofilm allows colonies to adhere to the fins of the coils. These then release products of metabolism, a variety of volatile organic compound (VOCs), linked to allergies and asthma. These contaminants congregate in the drain pans of your HVAC system and if left to fester, they will breed, causing serious problems from exposure to germs and bacteria. The good news is many of the latest systems are designed not to hold any water.
Abel Has Solutions to Air Purification
With a whole home air filtration system, you don’t have to worry about a time-consuming process. We can get it installed in a few days directly into your existing heating and cooling system.
For years we have assisted those with poor air quality in their home or place of business. The air we breathe can significantly affect our health and well-being. This is especially important for old or very young family members. Pneumonia and flu brought on by unclean air can be very dangerous for them.
